Spotsylvania Woman Charged After Stabbing In Fredericksburg

A Spotsylvania County woman faces several charges after a person was found lying on a sidewalk with stab wounds in downtown Fredericksburg.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Spotsylvania County woman faces several charges after a person was found lying on a sidewalk with stab wounds in downtown Fredericksburg Wednesday night, according to police.

Melissa Hackney, 32, was arrested and charged with unlawful/malicious wounding, domestic assault and battery, and drug possession, police said. She was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Stafford County and held on a secured bond.

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Fredericksburg Police received a report of a person lying on the sidewalk with stab wounds in the 200 block of William Street.

Patrol officers found the victim, who was then taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. During their investigation, Fredericksburg police said they learned that the suspect was the victim’s girlfriend, who was still in the vicinity. The police were then able to find Hackney.

The victim was released from the hospital on Thursday, police said.
