Stafford High School Names Class Of 2024's Valedictorian, Salutatorian

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Fredericksburg students Richard Oti and Mailynn Nguyen were recently named the valedictorian and salutatorian of Stafford High School's Class of 2024. Oti and Nguyen achieved those distinctions by earning grade point averages of 4.986 and 4.964, respectively.

A Commonwealth Governor’s School student, Oti spent much of his time outside of school taking photos as the production editor and editor-in-chief of Stafford High's yearbook. He was also co-captain of the Science Olympiad team and supported the Unity Project volunteer group.

In addition to being an associate and then senior chair for Stafford's Academic Symposium., Oti also received the George S. Blume Citizenship Medal, Stanford iGEM Biology Certificate, and an AP Capstone diploma. He was also a finalist for the Questbridge National College Match Program.

As a incoming freshman at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oti plans to major in the interdisciplinary course 6-14 that encompasses data science, computer science, and economics.

Nguyen is also a Commonwealth Governor’s School Student and served as president of the Humanitarian Aid Club. For three years, she ran varsity cross-country and is a five-time National Latin Exam gold medalist and two-time SHS Student of the Year. Nguyen was honored as a National Merit Finalist and an international Coolidge Senator.

Working with the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, Nguyen was founder and chair of a student workforce committee. She also did data consulting with the Chamber. Nguyen plans to study math at Princeton University next fall.

Stafford High School's graduation ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m., on Friday and will be available through a livestream link for those unable to attend.

Stafford County Public Schools will graduate 2,530 seniors at its five high schools this week. The Class of 2024 accumulated $18,926,401.00 in scholarships.
