Stafford High School Now Open As 24-Hour Emergency Shelter
Stafford High School is now operating as a 24-hour emergency shelter for people who were impacted by Monday's storm and power outages.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Stafford High School is now open as an emergency shelter for those in need of assistance. The Stafford County school system announced on Tuesday that the school would be open as a 24-hour shelter to assist those who have been impacted by Monday's snow storm.
As of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, more than 34,000 households were without power. Electric providers in the area estimated that more than half of all customers in Stafford County were without power on Tuesday afternoon.
Some areas of Stafford County received more than 14 inches of snow on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Stafford High School is located at 63 Stafford Indians Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. Pets are welcome at the facility, but they must be leashed or kenneled at all times.
The school system also noted that their transportation employees are currently working to pick up and assist drivers who are stranded along Interstate 95.

Stafford County Public Schools also announced that they will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 5. The school system cited "ongoing hazardous road conditions, overnight refreezing, and widespread power outages" for the closure. Students and staff will not participate in any virtual learning on Wednesday.
