Stafford Man Charged After Accidentally Shooting Himself At Walmart: Police
A man accidentally shot himself in the leg while bending over to pick up a case of water at a Fredericksburg Walmart, police said.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A Stafford man accidentally shot himself in the leg at the Fredericksburg Walmart on Sunday afternoon, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department. Now, the man faces criminal charges.
The man, who police identified as Hassan Delgado, received medical treatment at a nearby hospital after he was shot. Authorities told Patch his injuries were not life-threatening and he was released from the hospital later. No one else was injured, police said.
Delgado is charged with one count of reckless handling of a firearm and one count of carrying a concealed gun without a permit, the police department said. He was released on an unsecured bond.

If convicted of both counts, Delgado could face up to two years in prison, based on the sentencing guidelines in the Code of Virginia.
The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Walmart on Carl Silver Parkway in the City of Fredericksburg.

The police department said Delgado was reaching down to a pick up a case of water in the store when his handgun fired one round into his upper right leg. The gun was in his pants and not in a holster, authorities said.
