A Stafford man is facing charges after the county sheriff's office said he threatened a stranger with a knife before fleeing from deputies.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Stafford man is facing charges after the county sheriff's office said he threatened a stranger with a knife before running from police. Vincent Webster, 38, was arrested on charges of assault and battery, public intoxication and obstruction of justice in connection with the Oct. 13 incident.
According to a Stafford County Sheriff's Office report, deputies responded to the 1200 block of Providence Street just before 10 p.m. after a man called 911 and reported that another man allegedly pulled a knife on him.
The victim explained to deputies that he was retrieving items from his car when he saw the suspect — later identified as Webster — lurking in the shadows. The suspect then pulled out a knife and approached the victim while calling him racial slurs. The victim went back into his home and called deputies.

When deputies arrived, Webster refused to comply with their requests, the report said, and fled on foot into a wooded area near Greenspring Drive. After a pursuit by a deputy, Webster eventually stopped and was taken into custody.
At that point, the deputy noticed the strong odor of alcohol emanating from Webster, the report said. He was also unsteady on his feet. After searching Webster, the deputy located a knife, according to the report.
