Stafford Man Leads Sheriff's Deputy On 100 MPH Chase: Report

A 19-year-old man drove his Mercedes more than 100 mph Tuesday night in order to elude a Stafford County sheriff's deputy.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 19-year-old Stafford man is facing multiple charges, including a felony eluding, after he avoided a traffic stop by driving is Mercedes more than 100 mph on Tuesday night, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy M.A. Pearce was in the area of Warrenton Road and Plantation Drive around 9:09 p.m., when he saw a Mercedes traveling in excess of 100 mph. Pearce tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did not slow down and turned onto Truslow Road. After losing sight of the speeding car, Piece abandoned the pursuit.

Later that night, Deputy V.R. Weadon responded to Lynchester Drive for the report of a suspicious, unoccupied vehicle. Arriving on the scene, she identified the vehicle as the same Mercedes that had eluded Pearce earlier. During a search of the car, Weadon found documents concerning 19-year-old Timothy Garrett, whom police suspected of being the driver of the Mercedes.

While on Village Parkway, Deputy I.E. Baldi saw Garrett, who was muddy from walking through the woods. When the deputy asked for identification, Garrett produced a fake I.D. Eventually, Garrett admitted that he had run from police, knew that it was wrong and that je was just having a "rough day," according to the sheriff's office.

Garrett was arrested and charge with felony eluding, providing a false identity, and underage possession of tobacco. He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail and held without bond.
