Stafford Student Arrested For Bringing Loaded Handgun To School

The Mountain View High student's arrest follows an incident Friday when he reported being assaulted by three juveniles while walking home.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Stafford County Sheriff's deputies arrested a student at Mountain View High School Monday for allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to school in response to reportedly getting assaulted by other students on Friday. Sheriff's deputies detained the student and transported him to the county's Juvenile Detention Center.

At about 11:20 a.m. Monday, deputies discovered a loaded 40 caliber Taurus handgun inside a gym locker after a school resource officer received information that the 14-year-old student had a gun in the school. The sheriff's office charged the student with possession of a firearm on school property. No one was threatened or hurt, the sheriff's office said.

The arrest follows an incident on Friday when the 14-year-old student reported being assaulted by three juveniles while walking home. During the altercation, one of the juveniles displayed an airsoft gun.

"The investigation revealed that the suspect took his parent’s handgun to school on Monday morning for self-protection," the sheriff's office said.
