Stafford Woman Tried To Smother Children, Police Say: Report

STAFFORD, VA — A Fredericksburg woman arrested Saturday after officials said she attempted to kill her two children did so by trying to smother them with a pillow, according to a report. Tracyann Wiggins, 31, was taken into custody on charges of attempted capital murder.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office was called to a home on the 200 block of Campus Drive just before 8 a.m. Saturday. A relative had contacted police, saying they were concerned about Wiggings' mental health, the Free Lance-Star reported.

When police arrived at the home, they found a 9-year-old child and a 4-year-old child alone there. The older child later told police their mother placed pillows over their faces before they struggled out of her grasp.

Deputies later found Wiggins in a parked vehicle in the area of Centreport Parkway and the Interstate 95 entrance ramp. It was then deputies learned Wiggins had attempted to murder her two children before leaving the home that morning.

Wiggins was taken into custody and incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
