SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A man wanted by the Fredericksburg Police Department on multiple weapons charges fired a gun inside an apartment Monday afternoon when deputies with the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office attempted to arrest him. After several hours of negotiations, 25-year-old Juquan Depri Washington came out of the apartment and was taken into custody without any further incidents.

At about 1:15 p.m. Monday, Spotsylvania sheriff's deputies arrived at the apartment in the 10000 block of Crystal Palace to serve the arrest warrants. Washington was wanted by Fredericksburg police for brandishing a firearm, two counts of shooting from a vehicle and two counts of shooting at a vehicle. The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office also had issued warrants for Washington's arrest on charges of reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm and discharge of a firearm in public.

After his arrest Monday, Washington was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail where he is being held on no bond.

During the incident, deputies knocked on the door of the apartment while another deputy in the rear saw Washington on the apartment balcony and directed him to open the door. Minutes later, deputies heard gunfire from inside the apartment. At that point, deputies held their positions and negotiations began with Washington, the sheriff's office said. There were no other occupants in the apartment.

Residents of the apartment complex were not permitted to enter their apartments for safety reasons during the negotiations. "We are pleased that this incident ended peacefully and no citizens were harmed," the sheriff's office said in a news release.
