Stolen Bud Light, Hyundai Land Fredericksburg Man In Jail: Sheriff

A 38-year-old Fredericksburg man is facing grand larceny and shoplighting charges involving a "hot" car and a cold beer, authorities say.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 38-year-old Fredericksburg man Saturday morning in connection with theft of a car from a Stafford auto dealership in September.

Around 11:06 p.m, on Sept. 23, Deputy J.J. Suh responded to the report of a vehicle larceny at Dalo Motors, located at 3001 Richmond Highway. Employees told the deputy that around 6:32 p.m., a man unlawfully entered the dealership and stole a set of keys for a red Hyundai Sonata, which he then drove off with, according to authorities.

At about 8:58 a.m., on Saturday, 1st Sgt. J.D. Floirendo acted on an anonymous tip that reported the missing Hyundai Sonota was at the Wawa on Garrisonville Road, according to the sheriff’s office. One person was reportedly in the car, which now had a North Carolina registration that investigators later determined to be stolen.

With the help of Deputy F.A. Martinez, Floirendo conducted a high-risk stop and took the driver into custody, according to the incident report.

The sheriff’s office identified the driver as Edriques Gills. Searching the vehicle,deputies found the clothes the suspect was seen wearing on Sept. 23, as well as a cold to the touch Bud Light, according to reports. Investigators later determined that the beer was stolen from the Wawa shortly before Floirendo’s arrival.

Deputies charged Gills with grand larceny, larceny, and shoplifting. He was then taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he was held without bond. The red Hyundai Sonota was returned to Dalo Motors, according to the incident report.
