Suicidal Man With Handgun Shot, Killed By Stafford Deputies: Police
Authorities said deputies shot and killed a suicidal man armed with a handgun in Stafford on Sunday after he refused to drop his weapon.
STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — Deputies shot and killed a man in Stafford County on Sunday night, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said the man was suicidal and refused to drop his handgun.
The sheriff's office has not identified the man by name, but described him as a 36-year-old. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on routine administrative leave, authorities said. No deputies were hurt in the confrontation.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near Garrisonville Road and Ripley Road. When deputies arrived at the intersection, they tried to help the suicidal man, but he pulled out a handgun, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies retreated and told the man to drop the gun, but he refused, according to a report from Major Shawn Kimmitz of the sheriff's office. Deputies then shot the man.

The deputies tried to provide first aid, but the man died at the scene, according to authorities.
Kimmitz said the investigation is in the early stages, but more information would be released as it becomes available.
