STAFFORD, VA — A man is being held without bond after entering a south Stafford home in the middle of the night last Thursday to, according to him, let the residents know he had just heard a gunshot, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. Victor Merswin, 24, was charged with burglary and possession of marijuana.

Around 3:20 a.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person inside a home. The residents said an unknown man wearing a robe went into their home while they were sleeping and told them he was checking on them because he had heard what he said sounded like a gunshot. They told him to leave, which he did.

When police arrived, they found Merswin at a nearby residence. He told them the same story he told the residents. Police smelled alcohol on his breath, and then found marijuana on him. They said he was hostile and made numerous lewd comments while being arrested.
