Teens Indicted In Stafford County Gas Station Slaying

Two teenagers will be tried as adults for allegedly killing 20-year-old Troy Barnett outside a Stafford County convenience store.

NORTH STAFFORD, VA — Two teenagers who allegedly killed a 20-year-old man and injured another outside a Stafford County convenience store in July were indicted in Stafford Circuit Court Monday on multiple charges. According to a report, Caine Calif Davis and Rustam Fardin, both 17, will be tried as adults for the death of Troy Barnett and the near fatal shooting of 18-year-old Laura Guadalupe Gomez-De La Cruz.

Three teenagers, including Davis and Fardin, were arrested in August, but all court hearings until now were held in closed juvenile court, the Free Lance-Star reports. Few details about motive have been release, though it's reported Davis was the shooter and Barnett was his intended target.

On July 3, police responded to the 5 Twelve Gas Station at 1075 Garrisonville Rd. at 10:15 p.m. after a 911 caller reported two people had been shot in the parking lot. Police found both unresponsive with gunshot wounds. Barnett was pronounced dead at the scene, and Gomez-De La Cruz was shot in the head and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The third suspect, a 15-year-old male, is still in the juvenile court and his name has not been released. All three suspects are students at North Stafford High School.

Davis and Fardin are charged under two different theories of first-degree murder, but can be convicted of only one. They are also each charged with attempted murder, aggravated malicious wounding, robbery, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and conspiracy to commit murder. Their remaining court appearances will be in Stafford Circuit Court and open to the public.
