Thefts From Vehicles Increasing in Stafford: Police

STAFFORD, VA — There's been a recent rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles, and there's nothing random about them, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Police say thieves refer to the practice as "shopping," a calculated practice that often preys on multiple neighborhoods in one night.

The thieves go from car to car, stealing from unlocked vehicles.

Police says it happens during the day, as well, particularly when citizens engage in real shopping.

Advice from police is straightforward: "Don't be an easy target. Wherever you are, simply keep items out of sight and lock your vehicle."
