Traffic Alert: Torch Run During Morning Commute Friday
Event supporting Special Olympics expected to reach Falmouth Bridge shortly as it continues through our community.

On Friday, area law enforcement and supporters will be participating in the annual Torch Run along Route 1 and organizers are warning of potential traffic delays.
The 8-day torch run involves more than 2,000 law enforcement officers in support of the Special Olympics. The Summer Games begin Friday in Richmond.
Motorists are encouraged to show their support by flashing their headlights as runners and athletes pass through the Fredericksburg area.

After a handoff Thursday afternoon at the Stafford County line, runners will begin heading south on Route 1 at 6 a.m. Friday morning.

Here’s the estimated timeline:
- 6 a.m.: Stafford County line
- 6:30 am.: Aquia intersection
- 7:30 a.m.: 1745 Jefferson Davis Highway
- 8:30 a.m.: Falmouth Bridge/Fredericksburg hand off.
- 9 a.m.: Learning Lane/Spotsylvania hand off.
- 9:15 a.m.: SunTrust Bank, 5101 Jefferson Davis Hwy.
- 10:15 a.m.: Massaponax Church Road intersection, Caroline hand off.
