Traffic Congestion Solution at I-95 Interchange in Stafford?

Virginia approves $99 million to build new interchange at I-95 and Courthouse Road, which will expanded to four lanes.

STAFFORD, VA — A new interchange is coming to I-95 and Courthouse Road (Route 630) in Stafford County that's expected to greatly relieve traffic congestion, according to Virginia's Commonwealth Transportation Board.

The board approved a $99 million contract to Lorton's Shirley Contracting Company to build a so-called Diverging Diamond Interchange.

  • Courthouse Road will be widened to four lanes in both directions.
  • Commuter park-and-ride location will add 500 new parking spots after moving to new site.
  • A traffic signal will be installed at the entrance to Colonial Forge High School.

Target date for the project's completion is July 2020.
