Tropical Storm Cindy: How Will Northern Virginia Be Affected?

STERLING, VA — Tropical Storm Cindy is now buffeting parts of the southeastern United States, and it could well have an impact on the Northern Virginia area in the coming days. That's the word from the area arm of the National Weather Service in Sterling. Nothing major, mind you, just a bit more rain — perhaps — than previously expected.

In a National Weather Service Q&A early Wednesday afternoon, someone wondered how the storm would affect our area. The answer: "(T)he threat for heavy rain and isolated severe thunderstorms will be the biggest impact from Cindy on the East Coast."

And from the Washington Post: "The forecast gets more complicated Friday into the weekend, as a cold front potentially interacts with the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy."

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. South wind 5 to 7 mph.

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Friday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 86. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.
