UMW Soccer Coach To Lead Fredericksburg HotSpur

Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association named Jason Kilby the new head coach of the Fredericksburg Hotspur premier development league team. Kilby is also the head coach of UMW's men's soccer team.

University of Mary Washington's men's soccer coach Jason Kilby will also lead the Fredericksburg HotSpur, a rapidly expanding Premier Development League team.

Kilby was already a Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association training director and he inherits a team that is in second place in the Premier Development League's South Atlantic Division with a record of 5-2-2. There are seven games left in the 2012 season and the Hotspur team is trying to make it to its first playoff game, two points behind division leaders Carolina Dynamo.

"I'm excited. It's a new adventure for me," said Kilby, a native of Culpeper. "This team has top-level college and international players who are distinguishing themselves in a very strong league. I look forward to helping them develop their abilities and finish the season on a successful note."

Kilby succeeds Grover Gibson. The HotSpur team finished last place last year in its first season, but has dramatically improved in its second year, scoring a division-leading 18 goals so far.

"We are very fortunate and excited to have Jason on board with Hotspur," said FASA general manager Peter Cinalli. "He has not only played at a high level, but holds a U.S. Soccer Federation "A" License and has a wealth of coaching experience, including many years at the collegiate level. That's invaluable for the organization and for the players in our PDL program.

Kilby played soccer in the Premier Development League, in addition to stints in other United Soccer League levels and England's lower divisions.

"I'm not planning to make big changes," he said. "I just want to keep things moving forward, get our college players prepared for the season this fall, and hopefully help the guys that have already finished their college eligibility go on to play in a professional league somewhere."
