UMW Men's Soccer Falls to Catholic, 2-1

Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season and will host Salisbury this Saturday, Sept. 17.

The University of Mary Washington men's soccer team fell behind early on a penalty kick, tied the score in the second half, but allowed the deciding goal with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation in a 2-1 loss at Catholic University on Thursday in Washington, D.C. The Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season.

Catholic started the scoring in the 16th minute, as Kevin Romano scored on a penalty kick. The game remained knotted at 1-0 through halftime, until the 75th minute, when sophomore David Heller scored his first goal to tie the score.

The Cardinals netted the game winner at 80:23 on a score from Joe Taylor. CUA led in shots, 21-13, and each team had four corner kicks. Sophomore keeper Blake Weiss had 12 saves in goal for UMW.

Mary Washington will host rival Salisbury University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
