Underage Party Bust Ends In Arrest Of Spotsylvania Man

A Spotsylvania man was arrested after several parents reported picking up their intoxicated children from his home.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A Spotsylvania man was arrested this weekend for allegedly allowing several teenagers to drink alcohol during a party at his home, according to officials.

Bret Cotton was arrested in the early morning hours of Oct. 20 after several parents called the sheriff's office to report they picked up their children from Cotton's home in the 8100 block of South Woods Drive only to discover they were heavily intoxicated.

According to officials, a deputy arrived at Cotton's home following the reports to find an intoxicated 16-year-old walking from the home. After investigation, several teenagers ranging from 14 to 16 years old were found in the home. All appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

The teens were turned over to their parents, and Cotton was arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The investigation continues, and officials said additional charges may be filed on other adults who were present in the house.
