Update on In-Person Court Proceedings and Face Coverings

Effective June 8, an extension and modification to the Supreme Court Judicial Emergency Order remains in effect until June 28. Visit www.courts.state.va.us and click on SUPREME COURT OF VIRGINIA ORDERS OF JUDICIAL EMERGENCY IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 EMERGENCY for details.

The local order for Fredericksburg courts addresses transitioning to in person court proceedings and face covering requirement. Please take note of new courthouse signage and practice social distancing as directed. See local order.

Prior orders

The Chief Justice entered an order declaring a judicial emergency for all district and circuit courts of the Commonwealth to protect the health and safety of court employees, litigants, judges, and the general public. The declaration began March 16 and has been extended through May 17, 2020. View Court Order. Beginning May 18, 2020 transitioning to in person court proceedings may begin. View Court Order.

The 15th Judicial Circuit Courts continue to suspend in-person court proceedings through May 17, 2020 with Clerk’s offices open on a limited basis for essential and emergency matters only. Personnel will be available to respond to telephonic inquires and process electronic filings, if available. View Court Order. Call your specific court for further instructions. Beginning May 18, 2020 courts may hear in-person proceedings through June 7, 2020, subject to prioritizing emergency matters. View Court Order.
