Sign from Mary Washington House Recovered
The sign was found leaning against the fence at Mary Washington House Tuesday morning.

One day after reporting its historic, 80-plus-year-old sign had been stolen, representatives of the Mary Washington House in Fredericksburg announced Tuesday the sign has been recovered.
According to a post on the Mary Washington House’s official Facebook page, the sign was found leaning against the fence at Mary Washington House Tuesday morning, and it’s unknown who recovered and returned the sign, as well as who took it in the first place and where it traveled.
“It’s a bit the worse for wear, and it still needs to be remounted, but it’s home,” read Mary Washington House’s Facebook post announcing the return of the sign. “... Thank you to everyone who shared our Facebook posts, Twitter updates, and mentioned it to friends. The outpouring of support was evident through the over 1,200 shares of the Facebook post. Please accept our sincere gratitude for your help in bringing our sign home.”

The sign from the front of the Mary Washington House was reported missing Monday morning, according to the Mary Washington House official Facebook page.
The sign has been a fixture of the historic property “since at least 1934,” according to the report.
There are currently no leads on the whereabouts of the sign, and anyone with any information on the matter is encouraged to contact the Mary Washington House.
