VA Coronavirus: State Parks To Close Overnight Facilities

Starting Friday, overnight facilities and restrooms at Virginia's state parks will be closed through April 30 due to the coronavirus.

VIRGINIA — Starting Friday, overnight facilities and restrooms at Virginia's state parks will be closed through April 30 as part of the state's attempt to slow the spread of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Wednesday.

The closure includes all overnight facilities such as cabins, campgrounds, camping cabins and yurts, as well as restrooms and bathhouses. The parks also are canceling all reservations and will automatically refund customers.

State parks will remain open to the public for day activities such as hiking, biking, wildlife viewing and exercise. Staff will be available by phone if assistance is needed. Visitor centers at state parks are already closed. In-person programming and events at state parks are canceled through April 30.
