Vandal Slashed Tires, Damaged Windows On 45 Vehicles In Stafford Neighborhood: Police

A man was taken into custody after authorities said he slashed tires and damaged windows on more than 40 vehicles in Stafford County.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A vandal damaged at least 45 vehicles in Stafford County this week, the sheriff's office said.

In an update on Thursday, authorities said a suspect had been taken into custody. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office has not publicly identified the suspect by name. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail on unrelated charges.

"Detective D.A. Flues will be consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney to determine the best way to proceed with charges, as there are currently 45 victims and counting in this vandalism spree," the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook. "Further information will be released when warrants have been obtained and served on the suspect."

On Thursday morning, several residents reported that someone had slashed tires and damaged windows on vehicles at the Leeland Road commuter lot, the Leeland Station neighborhood, and the Ridge Pointe neighborhood.

"Deputies and detectives spent all day reviewing evidence, and due to their hard work, a suspect has been identified and was taken into custody," the sheriff's office said.

Authorities are still collecting evidence in connection with the vandalism. Anyone who may have video of the incident can submit it online through the sheriff's office website.
