Veterans Day 2019: Ceremony, What's Open In Fredericksburg

Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Here's what's open and closed for the federal holiday.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA —Veterans Day is Monday, and for anyone wishing to honor those who served in the U.S. armed forces, there will be ceremonies throughout the Fredericksburg area. However, the holiday will affect the hours and schedules of various area services and offices.

In Fredericksburg, a procession will be held along Washington Avenue, followed by the Veteran’s Day Commemoration at the Fredericksburg Area War Memorial on George Street. Admission is free to the procession and the commemoration. Both are held rain or shine.

Here is a schedule of events for the day:

  • 10 a.m.: The walking procession begins at Memorial Park to the Fredericksburg Area War Memorial. The procession route follows Washington Avenue from Mary Ball Street to George Street.
  • 10:45 a.m. - The Veterans Ceremony is held at Fredericksburg Area War Memorial.
  • 12 p.m. - A veteran resource fair is planned at Hurkamp Park.

Closings & Schedule Changes

Fredericksburg City Offices: All Fredericksburg city offices will be closed on Veterans Day.

Stafford County Offices: All offices will be closed on Veterans Day.

Spotsylvania County Offices: All offices will be closed on Veterans Day.

Post offices and mail: Closed

Fredericksburg City Schools: Fredericksburg Schools will be open.

Stafford County Schools: Stafford County Schools will be closed in observation of Veterans Day.

Spotsylvania County Schools: Spotsylvania County Schools will be open.

Local and state courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed on Nov. 11.

Virginia Railway Express: VRE does not operate on Veterans Day. For more information, visit www.vre.org.

Historic Sites and Museums: The Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania Visitor Center, in addition to the Stafford County Information Center at Belmont, will be open. The Fredericksburg Area Museum, which offers reduced admission for veterans and active service members, also will be open.

Libraries: All branches of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library will be open.

Trash Collection: Curbside trash/recycling collection schedules will not be affected by the holiday.

Recycling/Landfill: The Belman Road Recycling Center and the Stafford Landfill will be open normal hours, 8 a.m. -4:30 p.m. The Livingston Landfill is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
