Viewfinder: Fredericksburg on the 4th of July

With an abundance of activities taking place in and the around the city, Fredericksburg residents took to the streets and celebrated like it was the fourth of July. Because it was.

Fredericksburgers celebrated American independence in style yesterday, with a flotilla of rafts and a Sophia Street festival to mark the occasion. Fredericksburg Patch was on hand and returned with this series of photographs.

The Rappahanock River Raft Race kicked off at Falmouth Waterfront park at 11:30 A.M. and featured exclusively homemade rafts. Participants set off down the river with the hopes of crossing the finish line near Sophia Street. Spectators crowded the banks to catch a glimpse of the inventive floatation devices.

The street festival on Sophia street showcased local crafts and art, with booths ranging from antiques to photography and much more.
