Virginia Lottery Winner: Ashland Man Nets $500K

Using part of his winning from a $100 ticket, Ashland's Gregory Dean won $500,000 in the Virginia Lottery scratch-off game "Super Ticket."

ASHLAND, VA — When Gregory Dean of Ashland did the scratch-off thing with his just-purchased Super Ticket Big Money Virginia Lottery game, he more or less knew what had just happened. To make, though, she showed the ticket to the store manager for confirmation.

"He jumped up and down, and so I jumped up and down with him!," said Dean of the scene in which his $500,ooo winner was celebrated at the Brock Road Exxon in Glen Allen. The store, at 8627 Brook Road, got a $10,000 bonus from the Virginia Lottery for selling the winning ticket. (For more local news, click here to sign up for real-time news alerts. Dean was pretty much playing with house money when he bought the Super Ticket. That's because he used $10 from another winning Virginia Lottery ticket, that one worth $100. "I was at the right place at the right time." Dean, who works in sales, said he'll use the money to pay bills and provide for his family.

The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1,101,600. Dean is the third player to win the top prize, leaving one such prize remaining.
