Virginia On-Time Graduation Data: How James Monroe H.S. Did
Reports from the Virginia Department of Education show the school's on-time graduation rates compared to the state.
FREDERICKSBURG, VA — James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg lags behind the state of Virginia when it comes to on-time graduation rates, according to data released by the Virginia Department of Education Tuesday. The school's on-time graduation rate for the 2018-2019 school year was 84.2 percent. By comparison, the state of Virginia had 91.5 percent.
The school did outperform others in the state among some subgroups of students. The 83.9 percent of English language learners graduating on time outpaced the state's 71.1 percent.
Among students with disabilities, however, 84.6 percent graduated on time, compared to 88.5 percent in Virginia. Economically disadvantaged students had an 77.5 percent on-time graduation rate, below the state's 87.2.

Among Asian students, who make up 4.5 percent of the student population, 91.6 percent graduated on time. Among black students, who make up 34.3 percent of the student population, 87.2 percent graduated on time. Among Hispanic students, who make up 21.9 percent, 67.3 percent graduated on time — a percentage significantly lower than the school average and the state's 80.1 percent average. According to the report, 89.8 percent of white students graduated on time.
James Monroe High School had 240 students enrolled in 12th grade during the last school year. Other demographics comprising the student body include 34. 5 percent white, 4.2 percent two or more races, and 0.3 percent Native Hawaiian. At James Monroe, 8.4 percent of students have disabilities, 45.2 percent are economically disadvantaged and 12 percent are English learners.

The James Monroe High School class of 2019 had 61.2 percent with advanced diplomas, 28.6 percent with standard or other diplomas and 1o.2 percent of students who dropped out.
