Wanted Man In Custody After Providing False Identity: Police

The Stafford Sheriff's Department arrested a wanted man on Friday after deputies said he provided a false identity during a traffic stop.

STAFFORD, VA — A wanted man is in jail after authorities said he provided a false identity during a traffic stop on Friday. The man, Cody Jeffries, was wanted in Shenandoah County for domestic assault and felony kidnapping, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Department.

On Friday afternoon, a Stafford County deputy saw and stopped a suspicious vehicle, according to the police report. A passenger tried to leave the vehicle before police could approach. The passenger was ordered back into the vehicle by police.

The passenger did not have any identification, but he did provide authorities with a name and date of birth. The information did not match any records in a law enforcement database.

The deputy reported the passenger was Cody Jeffries, and that he provided a fake name to officers. Jeffries was taken into custody on outstanding warrants for domestic assault and kidnapping.

Authorities also said Jeffries possessed a controlled substance.

He was charged with identity theft to avoid arrest, providing false identification to law enforcement, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
