STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A Stafford County man was arrested on Wednesday after authorities said he assaulted a deputy that was trying to serve him with a warrant.

The deputy did not report any serious injuries, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities identified the man as 53-year-old David Grice. He is charged with assault on law enforcement, obstruction of justice with force, and obstruction of justice without force.

Around 11:52 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies visited Grice's home after he failed to appear in court.

"While one occupant within the residence advised no one by that name lived there, Grice would soon come to the front door," the Stafford County Sheriff's Office said in a report. "Grice was less than cooperative, and attempted to slam the door."

While slamming the door, a deputy's arm got caught in the frame. Deputies told Grice to open the door, but he said he "doesn't care," authorities reported. Grice braced himself against the door to keep the deputy pinned.

"Deputies were able to push against the door to get the one deputy’s arm free, and after a struggle, were able to detain Grice," the sheriff's office said.
