Weis Markets Takeover of Area Food Lions Begins Next Friday

The coversions will continue through the end of the month, with 13 stores making the switch.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — The conversion of area Food Lion grocery stores to Weis Markets begins next Friday and will continue through the end of the month.

Weis Markets announced in July it completed a deal to buy 13 Fredericksburg-area Food Lions, pending regulatory approval.

Weis also bought Food Lions in Maryland and Delaware.

Weis Markets CEO Jonathan Weis said in a release he's interested in retaining current employees of Food Lion.

“We look forward to interviewing and hiring team members who share our commitment to offering an industry-leading combination of value, quality and customer service,” he said.
