What Can Fix Village at Towne Centre?

Does the Spotsylvania's outdoor shopping center need new signs, new stores? Tell us.

SPOTSYLVANIA, VA — If you develop a swanky shopping village but hardly anyone seems to know about it, what to do?

More signage at strategically targeted locations — at least that's the plan Ohio-based developer Cafaro Co. has in mind for Village at Towne Centre, according to the Free Lance-Star.

Village at Town Centre is a collection of restaurants and retail shops behind Spotsylvania Town Centre that opened six years ago.

Cafaro officials say the lack of visibility is hurting businesses, and that's why they're seeking permission from Spotsylvania County to put up more signs to alert folks about, well, VTC's existence.

In their letter to the county, Cafaro officials said would-be customers drive to the mall, Costco or the movie theater but don't visit the Village: “Without visiting, there is no opportunity for impulse purchases or new customer acquisition. Much of these issues are due to the way traffic flow is directed around the outside of the Village.”

One prominent new sign would be at the roundabout at the mall entrance, with an arrow pointing to the location of the Village.

What do you think? Would more signs help? Would more attractive shopping or eating options help?
