Willett, Davis Lift Mary Washington Over Marymount
Heading into the final stretch of regular season play, things are looking up for UMW's Men's Soccer squad.

Two-thirds of the way through his first season as head coach of UMW's Men’s Soccer program, Jason Kilby has seen a lot from his team. He has seen them struggle, compete, grow, and now, he may just be seeing them peak at the perfect time.
The Eagles defeated Marymount University 2-1 Wednesday to improve to 5-4-2 on the season and remain undefeated in CAC play. The Eagles haven’t lost since Sept. 15, and with today’s win sit atop the CAC standings.
Just twelve minutes into Wednesday’s game, the Eagles struck. Senior midfielder Bram Sims drove a free kick into the box, and junior defender Matt Willett one-touched it into the side of the net to give Mary Washington a 1-0 lead.

“It was a low-driven ball, and I just flipped it into the side of the net,” said Willett of the scoring play. “It was my first goal of the year so I was really excited, especially because we got the win with it.”
Shortly before halftime, Marymount notched an equalizer on a shot coming off the foot of Henri Rivera.

After the break, it took just seven minutes for UMW to regain the lead, as senior midfielder Robbie Davis tickled the twine on an assist from Tommy Sangbouasy.
Up 2-1, UMW continued to press, playing the long ball game and trying to utilize the speed of its forwards. While Marymount attempted counter-attack after counterattack, the UMW defense held strong, and Eagles’ goalie Tyler Back didn’t face a single shot on goal in the second half.
With only five games remaining until the start of the CAC tournament Oct. 29, Coach Kilby believes his team is trending up.
“We’re progressively getting better," said Kilby. “The kids are striving to become better every day, and that’s all I can ask.”
The Eagles (5-4-2, 3-0-1 CAC) will travel to face St. Mary's College in a CAC matchup, next Tuesday, Oct. 11.
