Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Northern Virginia

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Northern Virginia.

STERLING, VA—The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Northern Virginia from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Snow, sleet and freezing rain of up to a half inch are expected, according to the NWS outlet in Sterling.

It's part of a system that the Weather Channel says will greet much of the northeastern part of the country on Super Bowl Sunday. Northern Virginia forecasts have the snow and sleet changing to rain by late Sunday afternoon. If you're driving, visibility will be reduced to less than two miles at times because of precipitation and fog.

After this, the next chance of snow is Wednesday night. Here's the latest forecast from the National Weather Service:

Saturday Night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 29. South wind 8 to 10 mph.

Sunday: A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 10am, then rain or freezing rain likely between 10am and 1pm, then rain after 1pm. Patchy fog after 10am. High near 40. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Sunday Night: A chance of rain, mainly before 10pm. Patchy fog before 1am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind 6 to 11 mph increasing to 13 to 18 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy, with a northwest wind 13 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 45.

Tuesday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Wednesday: Rain. High near 54. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 44.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30.

Saturday: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
