Woman Shot 5 Times On The Way To Pick Up Infant Daughter: Police

A woman suffered 5 gunshot wounds in Spotsylvania on Wednesday while she went to pick up her infant daughter from a relative, police said.

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A woman suffered five gunshot wounds when she went to pick up her infant daughter on Wednesday in Spotsylvania, authorities said.

The woman, who police only identified as a 35-year-old, received treatment at an area emergency room. Her injuries were not life-threatening, the county sheriff's office said.

Police identified the shooting suspect as Christopher David Williams. Williams is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, attempted aggravated malicious wounding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Authorities have not been able to locate Williams. The sheriff's office said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The shooting occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday in the Fox Point neighborhood. Deputies learned that the victim had been shot while she was a passenger in a vehicle.

Investigators said a male friend was driving the victim to her relative's house to pick up her infant daughter. The relative told the victim that her friend would not be welcome in the home, authorities said.

"Moments later, the vehicle the victim was in was shot multiple times as it turned onto N. Danford Street," the sheriff's office said.

The driver noticed that his passenger had been shot and drove to an emergency room.

During their investigation, authorities identified Williams as the suspect. Williams is married to the victim's relative.
