Wood 'Workshop' Launches Kickstarter in Fredericksburg

Facility will offer a gym-style membership, providing tools, classes and materials to create your own wooden treasures.

"Making is not a thing of the past. Indeed, we as human beings have an inherent need to craft things with our hands. For some people, that means that we have a need to create things out of wood."

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A new Kickstarter fundraiser launched this week would bring a new workshop space, "The Workshop," to Fredericksburg, offering a gym-membership style shop for crafting your own wooden treasures.

The Workshop is setting up in 12,000 square feet at 1104 Summit St.

"It isn't a wholly novel concept, similar operations have sprung up around the country, catering to the need to create and build that so many of us are seeking," according to the fundraising pitch. "Some are focused on metal, some on Maker Bots, some on cars or motorcycles. For us, we are initially focused on making things with wood."

Members will be charged a monthly fee for access to the shop, with classes to improve woodworking and basic shop materials, including wood, available for purchase.
