3. Special prosecutor to handle supervisor's assault case (nvdaily.com) — A Warren County supervisor is facing a misdemeanor assault and battery charge after allegedly shoving a resident to the ground following an Aug. 18 Board of Supervisors meeting held at Warren County High School in Front Royal. A special prosecutor from Page County has been appointed to handle the case, and the supervisor is scheduled for an October court appearance as the sheriff defends her office's handling of the incident.

Smithsonian Welcomes 3 New Red Panda Cubs (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Three endangered red panda cubs were born this summer at the Smithsonian conservation campus in Front Royal, giving the local facility a hopeful boost after last year's losses. The cubs are being closely monitored in off-limits nest boxes, while adult red pandas remain on view at the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.
