• One night, two jurisdictions and 30 years in the pen Jameur Smith (reflector.com) — A man has been sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison for a 2023 crime spree that began after a deputy dropped him off at the Sheetz in Galax. The incidents, spanning Galax and Grayson County, involved car thefts, an assault at a gas station, and a violent home invasion that left an elderly resident victimized.
• Grayson County Board of Supervisors announce potential development of data center complex (wsls.com) — Local leaders from Galax, Grayson, and Carroll are weighing a proposal for an $11 billion data center complex at Wildwood Park that could bring about 200 jobs and up to $76 million a year in local tax revenue. The project, still in planning and not yet approved, would rely on a joint investment that already includes more than $6 million from the three localities.
