• Traffic delays in the Shenandoah Valley – Week of September 7, 2026 (rocktownnow.com) — If you drive in or around Harrisonburg this week, expect lane shifts and closures on Route 11, East Market Street, Route 42, and nearby stretches of I-81 as VDOT continues widening, bridge, and sidewalk projects. The agency lists specific times, locations, and work-zone speed limits so Harrisonburg-area commuters can plan alternate routes and avoid delays through late September and beyond.
• Virginia breaks ground on expansion projects at regional animal health laboratories (augustafreepress.com) — Harrisonburg's Regional Animal Health Laboratory is getting a major expansion as part of a statewide upgrade of animal testing facilities, adding to its lab space and diagnostic capabilities. State officials say the project will bolster disease monitoring, protect public health, and support Virginia's agricultural economy, with benefits for local veterinarians, producers, and consumers.
• JMU Women's Soccer defeats UNC Greensboro Sunday, 4-1 (rocktownnow.com) — Harrisonburg soccer fans saw JMU's women dominate UNC Greensboro 4–1 at Sentara Park, led by freshman Holly Minshull's two goals. The Dukes fired a season-high 25 shots and now head into a three-game road stretch, starting Thursday at Liberty in Lynchburg.
