2. Mental health expert: Fall's arrival brings comfort, challenges (whsv.com) — A Harrisonburg-based counselor says the arrival of fall can lift spirits through cozy traditions but also trigger low mood as daylight shrinks. She urges residents to seek morning sunlight, stay intentional with their time, and stay socially connected to ease seasonal sluggishness and protect mental health in the coming months.
3. 65-year-old Broadway man dies after being deliberately struck with vehicle (dnronline.com) — A 65-year-old Broadway man died after deputies say he was deliberately struck and dragged by a vehicle, then taken to Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, his nephew from Elkton, and the nephew's girlfriend were arrested overnight and are being held without bond at the Rockingham Harrisonburg Regional Jail on murder and accessory charges.
4. New study finds more than 1 in 3 Blue Ridge households experienced food insecurity (whsv.com) — From Harrisonburg, a new Virginia Hunger Study reports that over a third of Blue Ridge households, and more than a third of local children, struggled with food insecurity in the past year. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank says demand for its services has surged about 40 percent, and is urging residents to volunteer, donate, and raise awareness during Hunger Action Month.
