DULLES, VA — Washington Dulles International Airport has added a new long-haul international destination with the launch of EVA Air's first-ever nonstop service between the Washington region and Taipei, Taiwan, creating a direct link to one of Asia's leading business and technology hubs.
The inaugural flight arrived Friday, marking the first nonstop connection between Washington and Taiwan. Airport officials, airline executives and government representatives from the United States and Taiwan gathered at Dulles to celebrate the milestone.
The new route connects Washington Dulles International Airport with Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. At approximately 7,800 miles, it is now the longest nonstop route served from Dulles. Flights operate year-round four days a week aboard Boeing 787-9 aircraft configured with business, premium economy and economy cabins.
"This new route" expands travel options for both business and leisure travelers while strengthening economic ties between the Washington region and Taiwan, Jack Potter, president and CEO of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, said in a statement.
Potter said the nonstop service will allow travelers to reach Taiwan while also providing convenient connections to destinations throughout East and Southeast Asia. He added that the airport expects the route to attract more international visitors to the Washington metropolitan area.
According to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the new service is projected to generate more than $50 million annually in economic impact for the region.
For EVA Air, the new route represents its 10th U.S. destination and one of only two on the East Coast.
"We see immense market potential in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area," EVA Air President Clay Sun said. "This new route will seamlessly enhance EVA Air's network across the eastern United States, delivering premium service to both business and leisure travelers alike."
The launch celebration included a traditional water cannon salute as the aircraft arrived, followed by a lion dance performance. Guests also participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and airport tour.
The new service began June 27 and operates on the following schedule:
