Man stabbed co-worker he was 'intimate' with to death: Cops (lawandcrime.com) — A 19-year-old co-worker has been charged with second-degree murder after police say he fatally stabbed 42-year-old Carmen Lizet Puch, then tried to burn her body, after leaving Bitez restaurant in Herndon. Investigators traced the case from the Herndon workplace to a Great Falls park, where a jogger discovered Puch's body; the suspect is jailed and awaiting extradition to Fairfax County.
2. With pool- and pod-style classrooms, Fairfax Co.'s newest high school prepares to welcome students (wtop.com) — Skyview High School's new Herndon campus opens Monday, welcoming about 1,000 ninth and 10th graders to Fairfax County's first new high school in decades. The $150 million, 34-acre site includes an indoor pool with aquatics certifications, aerospace and robotics programs, and innovative pod-style classrooms designed to build a strong school culture from day one.
3. DC Restaurant Week Summer 2026: Tysons & Reston Area Participating Restaurants (tysonstoday.com) — Herndon diners can take advantage of DC Restaurant Week from August 24–30, with local spots on Franklin Farm Road and Elden Street offering special fixed-price lunch menus and drink pairings. The broader Tysons and Reston area list includes dozens of nearby restaurants, many with outdoor dining, delivery, and brunch or dinner deals worth planning ahead for.
4. FCPS leaders seek compromise to keep middle school after-school program alive (ffxnow.com) — Fairfax County school leaders are searching for a way to keep middle school after-school programs running without charging a proposed $300 fee that many board members oppose. Herndon Middle is among several schools where students would remain exempt from any fees under federal meal provisions, as officials explore donation-based models and partnerships to satisfy county budget demands.
