Things Are Abuzz at Trinity Presbyterian Church!

What do native plants, bees, and butterflies have in common? They're all part of Trinity Presbyterian Church's beautiful new butterfly garden!

A certified Earth Care Congregation, Trinity is excited to share the completion of this project that reflects Trinity's mission of Loving God and Neighbor and Making a Difference while also taking care of God's Creation. Composed of 23 unique varieties of mostly native species designed to attract butterflies and bees, the accessible garden includes educational signage, a sundial, and a stepping stone path to a bench. As the garden includes eight milkweed plants, it is also a certified Monarch waystation. Currently, the garden is host to mostly smaller varieties of butterflies, but larger varieties are anticipated in the weeks ahead as the garden matures. Trinity's Creation Care Team members, who tend the garden, look forward to children from Trinity Preschool and neighboring Herndon Elementary School enjoying the space for its beauty and educational opportunities.

A significant source of funding for the garden was from the Government Employee Retention Credit (GERC) bill that was passed after the COVID pandemic. In addition, Trinity thanks the National Capital Presbytery Earth Care Network and Trinity Preschool for their contributions. The preschool, along with the Creation Care Team, worked with Meadows Farms on the garden design, and Meadows Farms did the installation.
