Judge Rules Herndon Has No Right To Reclaim Nearly 5-Acre Downtown Property (patch.com) — Herndon residents are watching a pivotal legal setback as a Fairfax County judge rules the town cannot reclaim nearly five acres of prime downtown land from developer Comstock, leaving the company in control of the property. The decision hinges on missing right-of-reentry language in the 2020 deed, but town leaders insist the fight over the future of Herndon's central redevelopment site is far from over.
2. Herndon Man Indicted In Federal Court After ICE Arrest (patch.com) — A Herndon resident is facing a federal illegal reentry charge after Immigration and Customs Enforcement linked his May arrest by Herndon police to prior removals from the U.S. He remains in federal custody ahead of a combined plea and sentencing hearing, while related Fairfax, Loudoun, and Herndon cases are still pending. Residents may notice this case in both local and federal court dockets.
3. McLean man sentenced in fatal 2025 Herndon shooting (wtop.com) — A McLean man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for a 2025 shooting near Elden Street and Jonquil Lane in Herndon that killed 39-year-old Jason Hann. Prosecutors say the driver fired from inside his Tesla after Hann kicked the vehicle, and the judge imposed a 10-year term with much of it suspended.
4. Fairfax County's newest high school is getting a quantum computer (wtop.com) — Skyview High School in Herndon will soon host what's billed as the world's first K-12 quantum computer, arriving in December and opening to students next spring. Fairfax County Public Schools and regional partners are funding the $850,000 system to create new classes, credentials, and career pathways in cutting-edge fields like cybersecurity, medicine, and logistics for Herndon-area teens and others countywide.
5. D.C. region rents would be higher today without pandemic, data shows (ffxnow.com) — Herndon renters are paying a median of $1,870 for one-bedroom apartments and $2,244 for two-bedrooms, slightly up 0.4% over last year. A new Apartment List analysis says D.C.-area rents overall are still below where they likely would be without the pandemic's market disruption. Fairfax County's rates remain above the regional median, with local trends varying by community.
