CHANTILLY, VA – A Herndon man has been arrested after police say they found 2,000 suspected fentanyl pills and an illegally modified firearm in his car.
The Fairfax County Police Department said in a release that it began an undercover investigation into suspected narcotics and firearms dealing in Chantilly on Oct. 5.
During the course of the investigation, according to the release, Alhaji Sorie Kamara, 19, of Herndon, agreed to swap 50 suspected fentanyl pills for a firearm with an undercover detective. The exchange was set for Oct. 10.
When police first tried to take Kamara into custody at the exchange site, he attempted to flee in his vehicle but was quickly detained, the department says.
A search of Kamara's vehicle yielded approximately 2,000 suspected fentanyl pills and a firearm equipped with an auto sear and extended magazine, police say. An auto sear is a modification that allows a semi-automatic weapon to fire many more rounds per minute, essentially transforming it into a machine gun. The technology is illegal in Virginia.
Kamara was charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II narcotics, possession of a firearm while distributing schedule I/II narcotics, possession of an auto sear and carrying a loaded firearm in certain localities. According to the Virginia court records, he has been released on a $5,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing set for January 19.
