• Almost a winner a year ago, Lexington woman alone at top of this summer's Cardinal Weather heat prediction contest (cardinalnews.org) — A Hollins resident, George Kosko, was among the runners-up in this summer's Cardinal Weather heat prediction contest, which focused on high temperatures across Southwest and Southside Virginia. The contest, drawing 25 entries, crowned a Lexington woman the winner for her near-perfect guesses, and organizers are already looking ahead to a potentially tricky El Niño-influenced snowfall contest.
