With over 250 data centers already in the county, residents near these facilities described noise and quality-of-life concerns as the board weighed potential litigation risks and future tax revenue impacts.
2. Best Buy Workers Flagged Credit Cards With Different Names. Then a Cardholder Called Police About a Charge at the Store (wealthofgeeks.com) — Leesburg police arrested three men after Best Buy employees on Potomac Station Drive reported suspicious credit card use, then a local resident called about a fraudulent charge at the same store. Officers say they recovered stolen cards and thousands in merchandise, and they're asking anyone with information to contact Leesburg Police while reminding residents to closely monitor card statements.
3. Leesburg Man Sentenced in St. Mary's County Assault, Identity Fraud and False-Statement Cases (smnewsnet.com) — A 35-year-old Leesburg resident has been convicted in Maryland on charges including second-degree assault, identity fraud to avoid prosecution, and making a false statement to an officer, drawing several short jail terms and probation. The cases stem from 2025 incidents involving a Mechanicsville auto business, trespassing disputes, and a traffic stop, with one jury conviction and an Alford plea entered.
4. Pray Vote Stand continues to expand as it works to influence elected officials (afn.net) — Leesburg will host the national Pray Vote Stand Summit from September 24–26, bringing faith-based political organizers and church leaders to town for training and strategy sessions. The Family Research Council–backed event focuses on prayer, relationship-building with officials, and mobilizing congregations around elections and public policy rooted in conservative biblical values.
