1. Inova Loudoun Hospital names Raj Chand, MD, FAAEM, as President (inovanewsroom.org) — Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg has named Dr. Raj Chand as its new president, formalizing the role he has held on an interim basis since August. He'll oversee the hospital's continued growth, trauma and stroke services, and its Leesburg and Ashburn emergency rooms, which together provide critical, around-the-clock care for Loudoun County residents.
2. Leesburg Finally Gets Direct Potomac River Access With Opening Of New Park (dailyvoice.com) — Leesburg residents now have their first town park with direct Potomac River access at Veterans Park at Ball's Bluff, open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 86-acre site offers boat access for non-gas-powered craft, new trail connections, parking, and a picnic pavilion coming next spring, after a two-decade effort to preserve the land and fund improvements.
3. Loudoun County Hosts Electronics Recycling Event October 10 in Leesburg (loudoun.gov) — Leesburg-area residents can clear out old electronics at a county recycling event on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Leesburg Park and Ride on Gourley Transit Drive. Most household electronics are accepted with no item limit, though there are credit-card-only fees for TVs, monitors, and optional on-site hard drive or smartphone shredding, with full details and contacts provided.
4. NOVA's Newest Wineries (oldtowncrier.com) — Several new wineries are opening within an easy drive of Leesburg, including Catamaran Hills Vineyard just north of town and OH's Vineyard on Leesburg Pike in Round Hill. From sparkling-focused Petit Domaine to Ovoka Farm's beef-and-wine experience and Silver Dog's estate-grown bottles, these additions give local wine lovers fresh destinations and styles to explore across Northern Virginia.
5. Virginia to get 11 new historical highway markers, 5 in Central Virginia (wric.com) — Leesburg is slated to receive one of 11 new Virginia historical highway markers recently approved by the state's Board of Historic Resources, highlighting the town alongside other notable communities. The broader initiative will spotlight Black history, historic courthouses, churches, cemeteries, and a lynching site, with installation expected to take several months once fabrication is complete.
