LEESBURG, VA — A Leesburg man who told police he fired a gun in self-defense after being assaulted is facing several felony charges after investigators determined he shot at an unoccupied vehicle, according to police.
Trevon M. Taylor, 29, was arrested Oct. 28 and charged with discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, felony property damage and reckless handling of a firearm.
Taylor contacted law enforcement around 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 17 to report that multiple people had assaulted him during an altercation between 3 and 5 a.m. in the 500 block of East Market Street. Taylor told police he fired his weapon in self-defense.
Investigators later determined that Taylor left the scene after the altercation, returned shortly afterward and fired several rounds into an unoccupied vehicle, police said. No injuries were reported in the shooting.
The vehicle was no longer at the scene when investigators arrived, but its owner contacted police Oct. 19 and said it had been moved to another location. Police processed the vehicle as part of their investigation.
Police took Taylor to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
