• Man charged with stealing vehicle and other property from Fairfax Station church (wtop.com) — A man from Lorton has been arrested after Fairfax County police say he broke into a Fairfax Station church, stole a church-owned vehicle, and took other property. Officers tracked the vehicle to Hybla Valley using a license plate reader and recovered additional stolen items, and the suspect now faces multiple burglary, theft, destruction, and drug charges.    

• Amazon Layoffs Take Effect Today Across Northern Virginia (patch.com) — Lorton is one of five Northern Virginia locations where Amazon layoffs have taken effect, with 691 local residents losing jobs as of April 27. The cuts come as Amazon falls short of its HQ2 hiring targets and as Northern Virginia already faces steep federal job losses, putting extra pressure on highly skilled workers across the region.
